Aircraft governors first came into civilian use after WWII when engine manufacturers began transferring their knowledge of how to take oil under pressure from an engine through sealed oil channels to the hub of a movable propeller assembly, without spilling oil all over the front of the engine. This has enormous benefits for the aircraft operator. The aircraft can now shift gears and reduce fuel consumption while flying faster. Bonus! This book gives the technician a complete understanding of how these black box devices function, and they show a pilot what he can reasonably expect from his governor. |
