Light twins are not easy aircraft to master. They
are (generally) overly compicated, poorly designed, awkward
handling, and difficult to live with. Most light twins also have
retractable landing gear. The new commercial pilot must deal with
all of these complexities, one way or another. This is a popular,
and reasonably priced multi-engine training manual suitable for the
pilot who is just starting out on light Piper or Beechcraft twins.
It features all the standard performance charts which the pilot
must understand in order to safely predict the performance of these
complex aircraft.
The Complete Multi-Engine Pilot includes a useful chapter on preflight preparation, and a discussion on counter-rotating propellers (such as on some Senecas), as well as a description of the Cessna 336/7 center-line thrust twins. This book can be used with any light twin, whether or not it has a critical engine, and regardless of the rotation of the engines. The book contains great detail on critical V-speeds and emergency handling. The practical flight test (which will be almost the same in any country) is covered separately in Private Pilot SEL/MEL Practical Test Standards, and the flight test briefing/debriefing is covered in Multi-Engine Oral Exam Guide. |
