The most demanding portion of the IFR flight is the portion from the Final Approach Fix inbound to touchdown. This video takes this portion of the flight and breaks it down into its many components in order to make it easier for the pilot to digest. It analyzes obstacle clearances (as first presented on the approach charts, and interpreted by the pilot). It shows how to estimate protected airspace (for example, how wide a turn can be made without encroaching into the airspace of other traffic). And it presents the many types of approaches that the IFR pilot can choose. The final approach segment is the real challenge of the IFR flight!
