There have been several different IFR training hood variants developed in recent years in an effort to solve two of the most persistent complaints about IFR hoods. JeppShades, as well as ASA's Overcasters solve the problem of using IFR hoods with sunglasses, and the problem of how to remove the darn thing on final approach if you're also wearing a headset and sunglasses. A normal IFR bleach-bottle hood gets all tangled up in the headset and sunglasses. There was a gadget called Foggles which also attempted to solve these problems, but Foggles had some serious shortcomings and faded from the market quickly. JeppShades and the Overcasters both have the ability to be flipped up out of the way when it's time to see outside, without getting tangled up with the pilot's headset.
