Flight Training Video Series:

#4. Slow Flight & Stalls

Normal flight has limits: what happens to the aircraft when it is pushed to one aeronautical extreme or another is presented with great clarity in this video. Normal lift can suddenly disappear when the pilot causes the aircraft to exceed a reasonable angle of attack. But how does the pilot know when he is approaching the limits of normal flight? This video explains the progression from normal flight, to slow flight, to minimum controllable airspeed, and beyond. The viewer is also shown that normal limits can be exceeded even at cruising speed while trying to turn too vigourously or too abruptly.

ATP's Flight Training Video Series, based on the Flight Training Manual, has been created by experienced flight instructors and airline pilots, and is especially useful for the primary phase of flight training, both for the Recreational Licence, and the Private Pilot licence. There are ten ½-hour videos in this series:

  • 1. The Principles of Flight
  • 2. Taxiing; Attitudes & Movements
  • 3. Flight maneuvers
  • 4. Slow Flight & Stalls
  • 5. Spins & Spirals
  • 6. Takeoffs
  • 7. The Circuit
  • 8. Approach & Landing
