After departing the airport area, the aircraft is
in the enroute phase of the flight. The flight condition is
usually a stable, cruise configuration, and the pilot is
concentrating on identifying landmarks and radio navigation aids.
All identifiers must be related to a navigational chart. The main
objective is to locate the next airport - but it can be hidden
amongst a blur of trees, hills,and/or valleys. The real
objective is to not get lost! It's easy to become uncertain in the
face of ambiguous landmarks. This video helps the student pilot to
relate the confusing landscape to the confusing chart. Navigation
is an art - it can be learned. The experienced instructors in this
video share their knowledge and help the student pilot to
understand this complex topic.
ATP's Flight Training Video Series, based on the Flight Training Manual, has been created by experienced flight instructors and airline pilots, and is especially useful for the primary phase of flight training, both for the Canadian Recreational Licence, and the Canadian Private Pilot licence. There are ten ½-hour videos in this series:
