These computers are based on the circular slide-rules developed by the military for multi-purpose navigation calculations over 50 years ago. The CR computers are able to correct compressibility errors that creep into high-speed calculations using the standard E6-B computers. The CR computer is more difficult to use for the new pilot since the wind/drift calculations are not based on the graphical "triangle of vectors" as used by the E6-B. All the CR computers (as shown in the illustration) are exactly the same, except for size. If you are far-sighted (like older pilots tend to be), use the largest diameter model you can stand. All the functions can be done on any of the modern electronic computers such as the CX-2, or the TechStar. |
