CARs in Plain English

The Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) were written to simplify the older hodge-podge of regulations, but with an odd twist. Like most government documentation nowadays, they were written first in the French language, and then translated into English. They are difficult to find in original print form since the complete package is about 2000 pages. Most of it is not used by any one aviation specialty; pilots need only one or two of the 9 parts. AMEs need only a few parts, too.

This excellent little paperback summarizes everything that an operational commercial pilot needs to know. In particular, it covers the following:

  1. The Aeronautics Act
  2. Aircraft Identification and Legal
  3. Aerodromes
  4. Personnel Licencing & Training
  5. Airworthiness
  6. General Operating & Flight Rules
  7. Commercial Air Services
  8. Air Navigation Services
  9. Index

This is an excellent reference for pilots, flight instructors, AMEs, and dispatchers. Chief pilots of CAR703/704 operations will find this is an excellent pocket manual for quick reference on the job; it's also an excellent study guide anyone interested in managing flight operations.
