Jeppesen's Instrument Procedures Guide is designed primarily as a technical reference for professional pilots using Jeppesen charts who are conducting instrument flight rule (IFR) operations in the National Airspace System (NAS). Certified instrument flight instructors, instrument pilots, and instrument students also will find this Guide a valuable instruction tool since it provides detailed coverage of:
  • The National Airspace System
  • Instrument charts & publications
  • Instrument procedures
    • IFR takeoff & departure procedures
    • Enroute procedures
    • Arrival procedures
    • Approach & landing procedures
  • Developing technology
  • Navigation databases & automation
Guidelines specific to helicopter IFR operations are included in a section on Helicopter IFR Operations.

This Guide is a useful recurrent training reference for IFR operations & is based on the FAA-H-8260-1, Instrument Procedures Handbook. In Canada, this is a useful addition to the Canadian Instrument Procedures Manual for pilots wishing to master the Jeppesen chart & data systems.

It is essential for persons using this Guide to also become familiar with the pertinent part of 14 CFR (FARs) & the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Performance standards for demonstrating instrument competence required for pilot certification are prescribed in the Instrument Rating & Airline Transport Pilot Practical Test Standards, as appropriate. Reprints of FAA Practical Test Standards are available in both ASA editions and Jeppesen editions.
