The service life of an aircraft engine depends very much on how it is operated and how it is serviced. Our own experience with our Piper Aztec which swallowed a valve at 1498 hours (on a 1500 hour engine) showed us how accurate those TBO estimates can be. But careful maintenance and operation can extend the serviceable life of an engine considerably. At the very least, the operator should expect to reach the estimated service limit of the engine (like we almost did). |
