JAR ATPL Training

JAR Ref 040: Human Performance and Limitations

This series of texts from Atlantic Flight Training (UK) is the complete course of study for the JAR ATPL set of exams. These "JAR OPS" texts are study guides and are not to be used as operational references. The philosophy of Atlantic Flight Training (AFT) is to train pilots to fly under JAA jurisdiction, not to simply pass the exams.

The JAR-ATPL candidate may sit the exams at any JAA-approved examination center. All candidates are required to bring a copy of the Student Route Manual, JAR VFR Supplement, and a JAR-compliant E6-B computer.

JAR Ref 040: Human Performance and Limitations

The last 100 years of aviation has seen huge technological advancement in aircraft and systems. However, the human being has not evolved at the same rate - psychologically or physiologically. It is an undeniable fact that human error remains the most significant factor in "normal" aircraft accidents*. This volume has been structured to not only provide all of the necessary information to pass the JAR-FCL examination but it is also of value to all pilots and especially to those involved with the human factors elements of Crew Resource Management (CRM). Human Performance and Limitations covers a broad range of disciplines: physiology, medicine, psychology, and sociology. This gives you an insight into the performance, limitations, and behavioral characteristics of humans in the aviation environment.

Trivia:

*This study doesn't even try to analyze the perverted thinking of terrorist Islamic aviators or demented aero-maniacs. Europeans try to pretend that these problems are temporary, or that they don't exist. This text sticks strictly to the flightdeck performance of normal aviators in predominantly Christian (western) cultures. The study of lunatics on the flightdeck is left for another day, after work.
