Joy Stick Warnings!
The following information on joysticks is provided by our
customers:
- CH Game Port Flight Yoke and
CH Flight Stick analog (IBM Game
Port) versions both work with Jeppesen's FlitePro and ASA's On Top.
The new CH Basic USB Yoke and the CH USB Yoke with Prop & Mixture is designed for
FlitePro, On Top v7, and MS FlightSim 2000 only. IFT-Pro is
the only remaining DOS-based flight sim; IFT-Pro requires a
Game Port Yoke.
- Microsoft Sidewinder and CH Flight Stick
units say on the box that they will work with DOS flight sims. Some
advanced flight sims (such as 74/4 and and IFT-Pro)
are still DOS products, so this is an important consideration. With
the MS joystick, you have a switch-selected choice of emulations
(CH Flight Stick mode or ThrustMaster FCS mode). This
is a choice between analog and digital modes. Digital
mode requires loading a driver and running through a newer model
game card. IFT Pro, for example, uses analog mode (no driver
required), and will work with older analog game cards.
- High-end Control Yokes (full-motion yokes and
realistic throttle assemblies such as Cirrus
Yoke), and the the new CH Yokes, are generally interchangeable
and will work OK with On Top, and MS FlightSim 2000. FlitePro with
a Cirrus Yoke must be purchased as a package because FlitePro
requires a different version of the Cirrus Yoke. The radio stacks,
such as the Jeppesen Consoles and ASA's Avionics Panel, only
work their respective simulators. Jeppesen avionics won't work with
the ASA simulator, and vice versa. If you are inclined to switch
from one brand of sim to another, the control yokes are
interchangeable to a limited extent only, but the
radios are not.
